How to opt out of FamilyTreeNow

A free genealogy-style site that surfaces current and past addresses, relatives, and possible phone numbers.

Steps

  1. Go to https://www.familytreenow.com/optout (reachable from the homepage footer link "Do Not Sell My Personal Information" / familytreenow.com/do-not-sell, which links to the same opt-out tool).
  2. Enter your email address and complete the CAPTCHA/hCaptcha, then click "Begin" (labeled "Begin Now" or "begin opt out procedure" depending on current page copy) to reach the record search form.
  3. Search for your record: enter first name, last name, and state (add city and birth year if your name is common, to narrow results and reduce the chance of picking the wrong person's record).
  4. Open the listing that matches you and click the red "Opt Out This Record" button on that record's detail page.
  5. Check your email for a message from FamilyTreeNow with subject line like "Please complete your opt out request" and click the verification/confirmation link inside it — the removal does NOT take effect until you click this link.
  6. Wait up to 72 hours for the record to be suppressed (several third-party guides report it often happens faster, within a few hours to 24 hours).
  7. Repeat the whole process for each additional listing of yourself (FamilyTreeNow generally lets you submit one record removal per request/cycle, so multiple profiles for you need multiple passes), and plan to recheck the site every few months, since FamilyTreeNow periodically re-ingests public and genealogy records and can regenerate a profile.

Processing time: Up to 72 hours per FamilyTreeNow's own stated policy; multiple independent testers (Security.org, Incogni) report actual removal often completes faster, within a few hours to 24 hours.

Worth knowing: Yes — opting out only removes the specific record submitted, not records of listed relatives/associates, and FamilyTreeNow periodically refreshes its database from public and genealogy record sources, so a new profile for the same person can reappear later. Guides recommend rechecking every few months (some say every 6 months) and repeating the opt-out.
