How to opt out of Instant Checkmate

A background-check subscription service with free public teaser profiles.

Steps

  1. Go to https://www.instantcheckmate.com/privacy-center/ (linked from the 'Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information' link in the site footer). This is the Data Privacy Center hub with separate sections for Right to Know, Right to Opt Out, Right to Correct, and Right to Delete.
  2. For full removal of your background report from name-search results (the part most people actually want), use the 'Right to Opt Out' section's link to the PeopleConnect Suppression Center: https://suppression.peopleconnect.us/?brand=InstantCheckmate. This single suppression covers the whole PeopleConnect family of sites at once (Instant Checkmate, TruthFinder, Intelius, USSearch) — you do not need to repeat it per site.
  3. On the Suppression Center site, enter your email (use the address most likely tied to your records) and verify it via the confirmation link sent to your inbox.
  4. Enter your legal first and last name and date of birth, then select the specific listing/record that matches you from the search results it returns.
  5. Complete identity verification (typically an email or phone-based confirmation code) and submit the suppression request. Third-party 2026 guides (Security.org, Incogni) report this takes about 5-10 minutes to complete and Instant Checkmate should remove the listing within roughly 48 hours.
  6. Separately, on the Privacy Center page itself, there is a shorter on-page form to stop your name appearing as a 'relative/associate' in OTHER people's background reports — it asks for first name, middle initial, last name, DOB, city, state, and email, and sends a confirmation email. This is a narrower, secondary step, not a substitute for the Suppression Center step above.
  7. Optional: also submit the 'Right to Delete' request on the Privacy Center page to delete your account/user data Instant Checkmate holds (search history, payment records, etc.) — note the page explicitly states this does NOT suppress your public background-report listing, so do it in addition to, not instead of, the suppression step.
  8. If you hit problems, or if state law grants you protected-person status (judge, law enforcement, domestic-violence protection order, etc.), email privacy@instantcheckmate.com (or privacy@peopleconnect.us for the suppression side) with your full name, DOB, city/state, phone, email, and the applicable law citation; or call (800) 222-8985, Mon-Fri 7am-4pm PT.

Processing time: Suppression Center flow reported as ~5-10 minutes to complete, with the listing removed within ~48 hours (per Security.org/Incogni guides); Instant Checkmate's own site does not state a number.

Worth knowing: Multiple guides (Security.org, Incogni) warn that because Instant Checkmate continually re-scrapes public records, a suppressed listing can reappear after a few weeks or months if new source data surfaces — recommend rechecking periodically.
