How to opt out of Intelius

A longtime background-check and people-search service, part of the PeopleConnect family (shared opt-out with TruthFinder, US Search, Addresses.com).

Steps

  1. Go to intelius.com, scroll to the footer, and click "Do Not Sell Or Share My Personal Information" (or "Exercise My Data Privacy Rights") — this opens Intelius's Data Privacy Center. If that link ever changes, you can go directly to the PeopleConnect suppression form at https://suppression.peopleconnect.us/login (Intelius is owned/operated by PeopleConnect, the same company behind Instant Checkmate and TruthFinder, and they share one suppression system).
  2. In the Data Privacy Center, click "View Public Data Tools," then click "Manage My Suppression Rules" — this hands you off to the PeopleConnect Suppression Center.
  3. Enter your email address, check the Terms of Use box, and click Continue. A verification email arrives almost immediately — open it and click "Verify Email." This link expires in about 15 minutes, so don't start the process unless you can finish this step right away.
  4. Enter your date of birth and your full legal name (first, middle optional, last). Note: the date of birth cannot be edited once submitted, so double-check it before continuing.
  5. The system will show you a list of possible matching records/profiles — select the one that is actually you. If more than one listing matches your name, you may need to repeat the suppression process separately for each one.
  6. Verify your identity via a one-time code sent to your email or phone (your choice), then enter that code to confirm. If the system can't verify you this way, PeopleConnect's guidance is to email privacy@peopleconnect.us for an alternate verification path.
  7. Once verified, find the visibility/status dropdown for your profile — it defaults to "Displayed." Change it to "Suppressed" and click Save. This is the actual opt-out action; skipping it (e.g., closing the tab after verification) means nothing was actually suppressed.
  8. Expect processing to take roughly 48–72 hours (some third-party trackers report it can occasionally run up to a few weeks). Because Intelius periodically re-ingests new public-record and marketing data, a suppressed profile can reappear later — plan to re-check your name on Intelius every few months and re-run this process if a listing resurfaces.

Processing time: ~48–72 hours typical (some reports note up to a few weeks in edge cases)

Worth knowing: Suppression is not permanent — Intelius/PeopleConnect periodically pulls in new public-records and marketing data, which can recreate or re-display a previously suppressed profile. Multiple guides recommend re-checking every few months and repeating the suppression request if your listing reappears.
