How to opt out of Spokeo

A large people-search aggregator pulling from public records, social media, and marketing data.

Steps

  1. Go to spokeo.com and search your name (or try your email address / phone number if a name search returns nothing — many profiles are indexed by email) to find your listing.
  2. Open the matching profile and click through to the full listing ("See Results"), then copy the complete listing URL from your browser's address bar — you need the specific profile URL, not just spokeo.com.
  3. Go directly to spokeo.com/optout (or scroll to the footer of any Spokeo page and click "Do Not Sell My Info").
  4. In the opt-out form, paste your profile URL, enter your email address, and complete the reCAPTCHA verification, then click "Opt Out" (sometimes labeled "Remove this listing").
  5. Check your inbox within a few minutes for a confirmation email from Spokeo and click the verification link inside it — the removal is NOT final until you confirm via this link.
  6. Wait 24-72 hours, then revisit the saved profile URL to confirm it now shows "No Results Found."
  7. If you have multiple listings (different addresses, past names, phone numbers), repeat the entire process for each individual URL — one opt-out only removes one listing, not all records tied to you.
  8. If you hit an error confirming the email link, or prefer not to use the web form, contact Spokeo directly at privacy@spokeo.com or by phone at (888) 558-9004 (5AM-8PM) with your full name, DOB, addresses, and the listing URL(s).

Processing time: 24-72 hours (sources vary: 24-48h per some guides, up to 72h per others; Spokeo's own help center language cited by guides says data may still be visible up to 10 days after processing completes)

Worth knowing: Spokeo continually ingests new records from public-record sources, so a removed listing can reappear without notice — one guide cites roughly every 3-6 months. Periodic manual re-checking (searching your own name/email/phone on Spokeo every few months) is recommended since there is no permanent block on future re-indexing.
